Taipei (SLpost) — Somaliland’s Minister of Interior and National Security, Abdalle Mohamed Arab, has met with Taiwan President Lai Ching-te at the Presidential Office in Taipei during an official working visit focused on strengthening cooperation between Somaliland and Taiwan.

According to a statement issued by Somaliland’s Ministry of Interior and National Security, Minister Abdalle was among senior officials who met President Lai during the visit. The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation, particularly in the areas of security, public safety, disaster preparedness and institutional collaboration.

The meeting also highlighted Somaliland’s interest in expanding international cooperation in security and disaster-risk preparedness, with the Somaliland delegation emphasizing the importance of strengthening national institutions and capabilities to protect communities and respond effectively to natural hazards.

President Lai Ching-te also underscored the importance of further developing cooperation between Taiwan and Somaliland in areas of mutual interest, according to the ministry’s statement.

Somaliland Delegation Attends International Disaster Management Conference

The meeting took place as Minister Abdalle and a Somaliland delegation participated in the World Alliance for Disaster Management (WADM) international conference in Taipei, which brought together officials and representatives from different countries to discuss disaster management and emergency preparedness.

The Somaliland delegation included Somaliland Fire and Rescue Force Commander Brigadier General Ahmed Mohamed Hassan (Sawahili) and Direcor-General of Somaliland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Mohamed Abdirahman Hassan.

The conference provided a platform for participating officials to exchange experiences and discuss approaches to disaster preparedness, emergency response and the management of natural disasters.

For Somaliland, the participation comes amid efforts to strengthen institutional capacity in disaster management and public safety, while expanding technical and institutional cooperation with international partners.

The visit and high-level meeting with President Lai further highlight the growing engagement between Somaliland and Taiwan in areas including security, disaster management and institutional cooperation.
