Boodhari Mills is considered as a backbone of Somaliland’s Domestic Production and Economic Growth

Hargeisa (SLpost)- The Somaliland government has reaffirmed its commitment to private sector-led economic growth and industrial development following a high-level government visit to Boodhari Mills, a leading agro-processing facility located approximately 10 kilometers west of Hargeisa.

The visit, led by senior cabinet ministers, underscored the government’s commitment to accelerating private sector-led growth and expanding opportunities for both local and international investors in productive industries.

Boodhari Mills, one of the country’s leading agro-processing investments, produces wheat flour and animal feed, contributing directly to food security while reducing reliance on imports. The company is part of a new wave of domestic manufacturing ventures positioning Somaliland as an emerging hub for value-added production in the Horn of Africa.

During the tour, officials were briefed on the factory’s operations, production capacity, and expansion strategy. The company is actively scaling its output to capture a larger share of a domestic flour market estimated at over $360 million annually—signaling strong demand fundamentals and clear opportunities for investors.

Government representatives emphasized that Somaliland offers a stable, business-oriented environment, with increasing policy focus on industrialization, infrastructure development, and investment facilitation. They highlighted the critical role of manufacturing in driving economic diversification, job creation, and long-term resilience.

Business leaders accompanying the delegation described Boodhari Mills as a model investment, demonstrating the viability and profitability of large-scale industrial projects in Somaliland. They encouraged other investors to explore similar opportunities across key sectors, including agriculture, logistics, energy, and manufacturing.

Concluding the visit, the Minister of Investment and Industry reaffirmed the government’s open-door policy toward investors, pledging continued support, streamlined processes, and partnership-driven development.

As Somaliland continues to prioritize domestic production and import substitution, projects like Boodhari Mills illustrate the untapped potential of a market that combines strategic location, rising demand, and a proactive investment climate.

The Republic of Somaliland also continues to position itself as an emerging investment destination in the Horn of Africa, combining political stability, strategic geography, and increasing demand for locally produced goods. The government’s proactive engagement with the private sector is creating a conducive environment for long-term, sustainable investment.
