Hargeisa (SLpost)- The Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs and Family of the Republic of Somaliland has held a quarterly coordination meeting focused on improving child protection services and strengthening cooperation among organizations working on children’s rights and welfare.
Held in collaboration with Save the Children, the meeting brought together government officials, service providers and other stakeholders involved in child protection and care.
Participants discussed ways to improve the delivery of services, strengthen information sharing and establish a more effective system for identifying and responding to challenges affecting children across Somaliland. They also examined key priorities and gaps in existing services.
The meeting builds on previous cooperation between organizations providing direct child-care services and those whose work has an indirect impact on children. Participants emphasized the importance of maintaining regular communication and sharing relevant information to ensure a more coordinated response to children’s needs.
The discussions also highlighted the importance of ensuring that child protection efforts are connected across different sectors. Effective support for children often requires cooperation among government institutions, community-based organizations, service providers and development partners, particularly when children face multiple and overlapping challenges.
A more consistent coordination mechanism can help stakeholders identify emerging concerns, share lessons from their work and reduce gaps or duplication in the provision of services. It can also provide a platform for reviewing priorities and ensuring that available resources and interventions are directed toward areas of greatest need.
The meeting comes as Somaliland continues to develop cooperation between public institutions and humanitarian and development organizations working to promote the rights, safety and well-being of children. Such partnerships play an important role in supporting child-focused services and strengthening the institutional capacity needed to respond to children’s needs.
The session was closed by Sabaad Mohamed Aydiid, Director of the Family and Women’s Department at the Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs and Family.
In her closing remarks, Aydiid highlighted the need to improve services available to children and ensure that their welfare remains a central priority. She said stronger coordination among government institutions, service providers and partner organizations would be essential to achieving that goal.
She also thanked the participants for their contribution and commitment to supporting children across Somaliland.
