ERIGAVO (SLpost)— Somaliland’s Chief of the National Army, Brigadier General Noman Yusuf Gahnug, accompanied by Defence Minister Mohamed Yusuf Ali, on Wednesday conducted a working inspection of military positions in Sanaag region, assessing the condition of the National Army and its ongoing duties in the areas where troops are deployed.
The inspection was aimed at assessing the overall condition of the National Army, reviewing the operational readiness and performance of military positions in eastern Sanaag, monitoring the security situation in areas where troops are stationed, and hearing directly from officers and soldiers about their needs, concerns and recommendations.
The two officials, who have been on a working tour of Somaliland’s eastern regions in recent days, visited National Army positions in Sanaag, with particular attention to the Jiidali frontline positions and surrounding areas.
During the visit, the Army Chief and Defence Minister inspected military positions and held direct meetings with officers and troops deployed along the frontline. Military commanders briefed the officials on the overall situation of the forces, the conditions in their areas of deployment, operational and logistical needs, and their efforts to fulfil their responsibilities in maintaining security and protecting the country’s borders.
The inspection also forms part of broader efforts to strengthen coordination and cooperation between the National Army command and troops stationed on the frontlines, while enabling senior officials to directly assess the conditions under which soldiers operate and identify areas requiring additional support and assistance.
Brigadier General Noman Yusuf Gahnug and Defence Minister Mohamed Yusuf Ali commended the troops for their sacrifice, dedication and commitment to maintaining public security and protecting Somaliland’s borders. They also underscored the importance of continued professionalism and the consistent fulfilment of the Army’s national responsibilities.
The inspection is part of an ongoing working tour by the Ministry of Defence and the National Army command across Somaliland’s eastern regions. The tour focuses on assessing the condition and readiness of military forces, reviewing the situation in deployment areas, and monitoring ongoing security and defence activities along the frontlines.
