Hargeisa (Somaliland Post) — The European Union Capacity Building Mission has held a medal parade at its Field Office in Somaliland, recognising mission members for their commitment and contribution to the EU mission’s work.
The ceremony, held last week and announced by the European Union External Action Service (EEAS) on September 8, 2026, saw eligible mission members awarded the European Union Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) Service Medal.
According to the EEAS, the medals were presented in recognition of the recipients’ dedication and valuable contribution to the mission’s mandate.
Recognition of Service
The medal parade also provided an opportunity to recognise the professionalism and service of personnel working at the EUCAP Field Office in Somaliland.
The EEAS said the work of colleagues at the Somaliland Field Office continues to contribute to the mission’s efforts and mandate, highlighting their dedication and professionalism in carrying out their responsibilities.
The CSDP Service Medal is awarded to eligible personnel serving in EU Common Security and Defence Policy missions as recognition of their service and contribution to EU-led security and capacity-building efforts.
EUCAP is an EU mission that supports Somaliland efforts to strengthen its security and maritime security capabilities by providing broader engagement and capacity-building activities.
The medal ceremony underscores the EU’s continued engagement with personnel working in Somaliland and its recognition of their contribution to the mission’s objectives.
EUCAP has maintained an ongoing engagement with Somaliland’s maritime-security institutions, including support for the Second Quarterly Maritime Security Working Group Meeting held in Hargeisa on June 28, 2026.
The meeting brought together Somaliland maritime and security authorities, international partners, civil society and academia to strengthen coordination and address priorities related to maritime security, safety and the sustainable development of the maritime sector. The activity formed part of EUCAP’s broader capacity-building and advisory support to Somaliland counterparts.
