HARGEISA — The President of Somaliland, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Irro), on Sunday announced a major cabinet reshuffle, removing three ministers from office and appointing new officials to key government positions.
The dismissed ministers include the Minister of Water Development, Abubakar Good Wacays, the Minister of Agricultural Development, Mahmoud Cige Yusuf, and the Minister of Communication, Jamaal Mohamed Jama.
As part of the changes, the president appointed 13 officials, comprising ministers, deputy ministers, and advisers. The reshuffle brings in a mix of new appointees and reassigned government figures.
Among the أبرز appointments, Barkhad Osman Batuun, a former member of the House of Representatives, was named Minister of Information. Aadan Geeddi Qayaad was appointed Minister of Agricultural Development, while Mohamed AbdiMalik, previously Deputy Minister of Transport, took over as Minister of Water Development. Dr. Abdisalan Hussein Awale was appointed Minister of Communication and Technology.
In addition, Dr. Mohamed Osman Fadal was named as the Special Adviser of the president on Foreign Affairs and International Relations while Khadar Xaaji Yusuf Abdilahi was appointed as a member to the Political Associations Registration Committee, filling a vacancy left after the death of a previous member.
The decree also included the reassignment of several deputy and state ministers across various ministries.
The reshuffle, the first of its kind since the Mr Irro took office in late 2024, is seen as part of efforts to improve government performance and strengthen key sectors within the administration.
