Hargeisa (SLpost) – The Somaliland government has announced strengthened security measures in areas affected by recent disturbances in the Awdal and Selel regions, including a strict ban on civilians and non-security groups carrying weapons.
The decision was discussed during the 73rd session of the Somaliland Council of Ministers, chaired by President H.E. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi (Cirro) at the Presidential Palace in Hargeisa.
Minister of Internal Affairs and National Security Abdalle Mohamed Arab briefed the Cabinet on the overall security situation, stating that the country remains generally peaceful and stable.
He said recent disturbances in several parts of the Awdal and Selel regions are coming to an end, with peace and stability gradually returning to the affected communities.

The minister also highlighted ongoing government efforts to strengthen peace, peaceful coexistence, reconciliation and mutual understanding among communities in the two regions.
As part of the government’s new security measures, civilians and groups not officially affiliated with Somaliland’s security institutions will not be permitted to carry weapons of any kind in areas affected by the disturbances.
Security forces have been instructed to take legal action against anyone who violates the directive and to confiscate weapons from individuals found carrying them unlawfully.
The measures form part of broader government efforts to prevent further unrest, consolidate security and stability, and ensure lasting peace in the affected areas.
